Private dining - Bagru Haveli, Jaipur
Enjoy a private dinner in a lovely setting and experience the hospitality of a local Rajput family in their 250 years old mansion. The house is built in the traditional Haveli style with courtyards, pavilions, fresco painting and elaborate mirror work.
The owner, Janak Singh Ji and his wife Jaswant Kawar, are charming hosts and create a wonderful ambience for this private dining experience in their courtyard winter garden. The delicious home cooked food gives guests the opportunity to sample the traditional cuisine of Rajasthan, not the restaurant version of so-called traditional food. The vegetables and meat are sourced fresh from the local market and vary with seasonal availability.
Bagru Haveli takes its name from the village 30 kms from Jaipur where the family also maintains a home. For many years Bagru village flourished as a centre for hand block printing and tie dye textiles. The residence belonged to Bagru’s former ruler who was a close relative of the Jaipur royal family. The family title is that of “adhiraja” which translates as “Half King”. In the absence of Maharaja of Jaipur the chief of Bagru took all the important decisions.
